About the event

The Yoga Teachers Circle at Ettalong Yoga is a monthly opportunity to connect, learn, share and evolve collectively as yoga teachers and practitioners. Think of it as a yoga class meets chilled-out mentoring session where we come together as equals to explore yoga, learn from each other, and elevate the way we teach and embody yoga.

THIS MONTH:

We welcome Alissa Hattersley as Guest Teacher of our special International Yoga Day Teacher's Circle, who will be leading a Yoga & Meditation class focused on Dharana or single-pointed attention.

Yoga and Meditation – Dharana or single-pointed attention

In a world where there are endless distractions and our lives and minds are fuller than ever, what we place our attention on can have a big impact on the quality of our lives. Dharana, or single-pointed attention, is the practice of averting the mind from constant meandering through memories, dreams, or reflective thought by deliberately holding single-minded attention onto something either internal or external to ourselves. Every time we practice Dharana, we strengthen our ability to focus and direct our attention to where we want it to go. This class will thoughtfully weave together asana, pranayama, gentle chanting and a guided meditation, to cultivate a state of Dharana.

A little bit about Alissa...

Alissa has delved into various forms of yoga, with each new school and class giving her a deeper and wider understanding of what yoga is. She is passionate about instilling the ancient practice of yoga into her classes in such a way that students leave with not only a healthier body and mind, but with some wisdom to deepen their life experience.

Alissa has cultivated a solid home yoga practice over the years and has found this to be incredibly supportive as she moves through life while parenting and working. She recently completed her Diploma in Yoga Teaching, and is now undertaking a postgraduate Yoga Therapy course, both of which are through Yogic Wisdom and following the tradition of T. Krishnamacharya.

Curating a yoga class where students can experience the various aspects of yoga is her offering, bringing in aspects such as asana (poses), pranayama (breathing), yogic philosophy, and storytelling. Through her classes, her aim is to guide others to connect with the truest parts of themselves and hopefully, embed the essence of yoga into their being.
